JACKIE COCHRAN      Jackie Cochran left a remarkable mark on the history of avation. When she died in 1980 she held more speed, altitude and distance records than any other pilot, male or female. No one has ever matched this achievement.

1937 - First in womens division of Bendix; third overall.

1939 -  women's national altitude record,
international speed record for men and women,
won New york to Miami air race.

1940 - Breaks the 2,000 kilometer international speed record and the 100 kilometer national record.

1953 - In an F-86, first woman to break the sound barrier.

1962 - Establishes 69 intercity and straight-line distance records for Lockheed in a Jet Star. Sets 9 international speed, distance and altitude records in a Northrop T-38.

1964 - Resets her own records in Lockheed F-104G.

1971 - Enshrined in the Avation Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio. First living woman to have been so honored.
